About This Blog

This is where I post my original works - stories, poems, proses, essays, etcetera. I own everything that's written here. If you want to post my works somewhere, please give credit to me.

Original stories are stories whose characters came from my mind. I own the character for those posts that have this tag.

Fan fic are my stories which stars my favorite Asian stars/anime characters/drama characters. I only own the stories, but not the characters (I do wish I own Calvin Chen and the rest of Fahrenheit... lol)

Roses are my short proses/stories. it may be written in first person's view or thrid person's view. It's just a narrative prose.

One-shots are my series of stories that are one chapter long. These are also tag as roses.

Actually, I was planning to make 25 short stories before my 25th birthday (which have already passed) and unfortunately, I wasn't too successful in making 25 short stories. I was panning to call it 25 roses, hence the tag roses here in my blog.

Anyways, if you want to read just one story, click on the title below and then start reading from below.

Happy Reading!

P.S.

I'm trying to figure out how I could highlight the entries here and copy, but I am not that knowledgaeble with HTML. So, while I'm trying to figure things out, if anyone wanted a soft copy of the stories here for reading purposes only, you can shoot me an email at tamed_soul@hotmail.com

A Game Of Destiny - Game 1 - Odium

Game 1: Odium – Triumph and Sorrows

Those who hate most fervently must have once loved deeply...

--

The silence was broken when the door opened.

Everyone looked at the direction of the long haired girl, standing by the door. She looked around her, and saw the people murmuring, probably talking in hush about her. At the end of the room, she saw a white coffin. She bit her lips, trying her best not to breakdown. Slowly, she walked towards the coffin, and as she reached it, she took a look inside. The man lying inside was smiling. He was sleeping peacefully, she thought. He is at peace now. No one could ever hurt him again. She was convincing herself that his death is more of a blessing, than a tragedy. She was convincing herself that everything will be all right. That he deserves to be at peace for once. The last seven years have been a struggle for him, she know that. From losing his precious company, to the countless case being sued to him. He will now be at peace.

But she will never see her again.

Her fingers trailed onto the glass. She was tracing onto his face. And the tear she was trying to fight finally fell onto her cheeks. “Dad...” she whispered. She stared at his face for a long time. She have to memorize his face. She have to, for this is her only consolation. She will never see her father again. “Daddy... why did you have to leave me?” she said. She closed her eyes, and she began to breakdown. The people inside the room could only watch her as she cries for her loss. He is her only daughter. He is the only family she have got, and now, he's gone. She have always thought her father is a strong one, but she's wrong. He, like any other human being, is also weak. And his weakness have caused his own life. He wanted to clear his name, and he thought the only way to do it is to take his own life.

She regret not being by his side the whole time. She regret being away from him for the past seven years. While she was busy studying abroad and having her career as chef, her father was struggling with his own problems. If only she could turn back time, she would've come back home as often as she could. She could have said goodbye to him. She could have told him how much she loves him. But it's too late now. Even if she does those things and say the unspoken words, he would not be able to see or hear it for he's gone.

“Arianna...” She looked behind her, and saw an elder woman coming up to her. “Aunt Penny...” she said in a soft voice. The elder woman walked towards her, and gave her a warm embrace. She could only cry onto her shoulder. “Ssshh... hush my child... everything's going to be all right...” the elder woman. She continued to cry. She need to cry.

Because even if everyone tells her that everything's going to be all right, she knows it isn't true.

--

“Mario Lorenzana is dead.”

He looked outside the window, and an evil smirk formed onto his lips. “Good.” he said. He took a sip from his glass of whiskey, and turn to face his assistant. “Apparently, he shot himself in the head. I guess that old man could not take his own downfall...” He nodded his head. “He deserves it after all.” he replied. This is all he have ever wanted – the downfall of the man he hated the most. He will never forgive him for what he have done to his father. He will never forgive him for ruining his life. Mario Lorenzana deserves all the tragedy that happened in his life, and he have a great contribution in it.

“Ralph... what's your plan now?” his assistant asked him once again. “I am done with my mission in life. I will savor this moment of triumph, Eric. I will celebrate Mario Lorenzana's death, for it means that I have succeeded over him...” he said triumphantly. “And to celebrate, you mean... take a month off from work and relax?” he asked. He nodded his head, and stood up from his seat. “I needed a break, Eric. Now that Mario Lorenzana is gone, I can be at peace.” he said, giving him a smile. He looked back at his desk, and walked towards it. He took a small picture frame on it, and stared at it for a long time. “Sweet revenge for my father... I know wherever he is, he is very happy with what I have done. I know this is what he have always wanted me to do...” he said.

Then, he heard his assistant let out a sigh. He looked back at him, confused at his reaction. “Eric? Anything wrong?” he asked. “It's just that I'm worried about you, Ralph. You know what they say, what goes around, comes around. Aren't you scared that one day, you will have to pay for what you have done.” he asked. He shook his head. “No regret, Eric. I feel no regret. This is what I have always wanted. I got it now, so be happy for me.” he said. Eric let out another sigh. “Fine, I'll be happy for you, Ralph. I just hope you're really happy ruining other people's life...”

He walked towards him, giving him a death glare. “He was the one who ruined my life first.” he hissed at him. “He is the reason why my father died. He deserves all the bad things that happened to him. I only let him have a dose of his own medicine, Eric. I am not at fault here!” Eric lowered his head, and shook it. “Ever since we were young, you're obsessed with your revenge for him. I know you only want to avenge your father's death... but do you think this is too much?” he asked. He shook his head. “This is not even enough... he should be thankful that I only took his precious company, that I only filed cases against him. If I had the will, I will take his life with my hand. He should be thankful I did not kill him.” he said. “Then I hope you will be at peace after this...” Eric said. He let out a bitter smile at his boss. “I really hope so, Ralph Ferrer... or should I say... Calvin Orseo...”

--

She opened the door of the master's bed room, and turned the lights on. From the middle of the room, she could see the king-size bed where his father always rests. She walked inside, and sat at the edge of the bed.

It's her father's bed room.

She could still smell her father's scent in this room. Everywhere she looks, she could hear her father's gleeful voice echoing throughout the room. Being inside her father's room brings up a lot of thoughts and memories on her mind. She could still remember lying beside him at night, telling him how her day went at school. She remembered how her father tickled, and how both of them laughed hard at a corny joke he would tell her. She remembered how her father's worried face whenever she's sick. Her dad may not be a perfect man, but for her, he is a perfect father. He raised her single-handedly while struggling with putting up his company. He gave her the best of both worlds, and still have a little more left to give to her.

For the last eight years, Arianna was away from her father's side to study abroad, and then went on to work for the best hotels in the world as a chef. All the while, she thought her dad is doing OK. She have been hearing some bad news from other sources regarding his father's business, but when she confronts her father about it, he would tell her not to worry much and that everything is good as it should be. She believed what her father said. She believed her dad can handle everything. But she forgot that his dad is also human, and could be weak at times.

She remembered the last voice message her father left her before he died. He said in his message that he called to say he loves her, and that he is proud of what he has become. From the sound of his voice that time, she knew something is wrong. It was like he was saying goodbye to her. The next day, she received a call that his father is already gone. He was gone just like that. He took his own life by shooting himself in the head. He left her without giving her the chance to say how much she loves him, how much she's grateful to have a father like him. He left her without giving her a chance to thank him for all the things he have done for her. Now, those words will remain unspoken forever. Her father will never know how much he means to her.

“Arianna...” she looked up and saw her Aunt Penny by the door. “The lawyer is here. There are matters to be discussed...” She let out a faint smile, and nodded her head. “I understand...” she said.

--

“Aside from this house, the trust fund which your dad kept as a secret is the only thing left for you...” she heard the lawyer said. Arianna just nodded her head. The lawyer took her hand, and held it. “I'm sorry, Arianna... your dad did your best... it's too bad that he finally gave up with his fight...” he said.. Arianna looked up at him. Her eyes were filled with so much anger. “Tell me... tell me what happened? Why did dad lose his company? Why did dad have to kill himself because of it?” she asked the elder man. Atty. Wenceslao leaned on his chair, and let out a sigh. “You dad wouldn't want you to know...”
“My father is dead. He will not know if you tell me everything.”
“You know your father, Arianna. If it concerns the problem regarding the company, he would rather keep it from you...”
“But I want to know, Atty. Wenceslao. Tell me. I have the right to know... because it's the reason of my dad's death.”

Atty. Wenceslao let out another sigh, and leaned towards the table. “Your dad's company... it was taken by force...” he explained. “The company had its downfall when the board of directors found out that there are some anomalies in the company. The cases filed by his rival company did not help at all, and soon the stockholders began to lose their trust in your father. In the end, he have no choice but to give it up to him.” the lawyer explained. “Who is he, or she? Who would do that to my father?” she asked again. “The CEO of Sun Group of Companies. He have been eying your father's company since he came from abroad... and did all possible way for your father to give it up to him.”
“Nan Group of Companies?”
The lawyer nodded his head. “He is a young man around your age. A young, yet smart and wicked man as your dad puts it.” the lawyer answered. “What... what is his name?” she asked again. The lawyer paused as he remembered the name of the man that caused his good friend's misfortune. “Ralph Ferrer.” he said. “His name is Ralph Ferrer.”

--

She entered his father's bedroom once again, and took the picture of her and him during happier days. He stared at his father's smiling face, and then wiped the tear on his face. “Ralph Ferrer...” she whispered. She will never forget that name, for it's the name of the man who caused her father's death. “I don't know why you have to do it to my dad. I don't know why you have to make my dad go trough all this pain... I could never forgive you for everything...” she said bitterly.

She closed her eyes, and let the last tear fall from her eyes. From today onwards, she have to remain strong for herself. She have to stay strong for her dad. One day, she swore to herself, she will find Ralph Ferrer and make him pay for what he have done. “One day, dad... I swear I will get back all the things he have taken away from you. I will make him pay for all the bad things he have done to you. I promise you that...” she said. As another tear fall from her eyes, she pulled the frame up to her lips, and kissed his father's picture.

--

A tall man walked up to the counter, and presented his passport and plane ticket. “Your destination?” the lady behind the counter asked. He let out a smile before answering her question. “New York.” he said. The lady smiled at him as he handed back his passport. “Have a safe trip, Mr. Orseo.” she said. He smiled again and nodded his head.

He headed to the gates, going through the airplane. “This is it...” he walked. For him, this is freedom. Finally, he could live a life he have always dreamed of - without any hatred in his heart and with his own identity. From today onwards, he will no longer live a double life. From today onwards, he can be himself. The past seven years have been a struggle for him, but now that it's over, he is truly happy and contented. He will have to say goodbye to his borrowed identity and live his own life. “Calvin Orseo...” he said to himself. Then, a smile formed in his lips. “At least now, I can be true to myself...”

--

“So what are your plans now?” Aunt Penny asked Arianna as they were strolling at the garden. She put her hands on her pocket as she smiled at the elder woman. “I'm going to stay...” she said. The elder woman smiled at her. “That's good.” she said. “I've been away for a long time, I guess it's time for me to be home...”
“Then, you will accept the offer of La Plaza to be their chef?”
“I guess so. I need to hone my skills first, then maybe I can start my own restaurant.”

The elder woman paused, and looked at her lovingly. “I realized that you and your father are really alike. Karl had that same attitude as yours...” she said. “I take after my father, Aunt Penny...” she answered. Aunt Penny just nodded her head. “Actually, there is a reason why I decided to stay here...” Arianna said. Aunt Penny gave her niece a confused look. “One day, I will avenge dad's death. One day, I will take back what that Ralph Ferrer has taken away from my dad...” she said. The smile on Aunt Penny's face as she saw the furious expression on Arianna's face. “Arianna... are you serious about it?” she asked. Arianna nodded her head. “Dad didn't to suffer in his hands. He have no right to take away all the things he worked hard for. One day, I will face him and I'll have my revenge on him. I swear I will.” she said firmly. Aunt Penny reached for her hand, and squeezed it. “Arianna, don't make decisions like this. If your father is here, he wouldn't want you to do this...”
“If dad is here he would approve of it. He have done so much for me, and this is the only way I could do for my dad.”
“Your dad have suffered a lot while battling with Ralph Ferrer. I know he wouldn't want you to suffer in the same way as he did with him...”

Arianna looked at her, and smiled. “I'm going to be OK, Aunt Penny. If dad was able to fight with him, I could do this to. I will continue dad's fight for him. And I will not stop until I put that Ralph Ferrer down.” she said. “I will, Aunt Penny. I swear to my dad's grave, I will make Ralph Ferrer suffer in the same way that he did in his hands...”

--

He hid at one corner, and as he peeked, he saw his father kneeling. He could hear his father begging for his life. He looked at the man standing before his father, and his face shows a wicked smile. On his hand, he saw he was holding a gun, and pointing it at his helpless father. “No... please... don't...” he heard his father said. But the man did not took mercy upon him. In an instant, he pulled the trigger, and all he could hear was a loud shot of the gun, and his father's cry of anguish as he dies before his very eyes.

Calvin opened his eyes, and sat up on his bed. It was another bad dream for him. Ever since he was young, he have been dreaming of the day he saw his father died. He brushed his hair with his fingers as he took a deep breath. Then, he stood up from his bed, and headed to the bath room. He splashed cold water on his face, and then looked at himself at the mirror. “It has been more than 20 years... I had my revenge on him... why can't these nightmares stop?” he asked himself. He thought that if he could make Mario Lorenzana suffer as much as his father did before, he could move on with his life and that traumatic part of his life would be erased easily.

But then, he was wrong.

He stopped having those dreams for a while, but then it suddenly came back. All those memories he wished to forget seems to haunt him once again. He leaned on the sink, and he lowered his head. The man he hated the most is now gone. The man who killed his father is now gone. The man who ruined his life is now gone. He should be rotting in hell now, as far as he is concerned. He have to move on, that he knows, but he could not move on totally if his past would continue to haunt him. Maybe it was a bad idea to go back to his real identity. Maybe he should have stuck with his other self. Maybe he should have not chose to be Calvin Orseo, and stay with being Ralph Ferrer. But he knows in his heart that he would never want to be Ralph Ferrer anymore. For him, Ralph Ferrer represents the bad side of him, the lonely side of him. Ralph will always be hated for all the things he did just to be on top. He only wanted live a peaceful life as a normal person that's why he chose his real identity again.

He walked back inside his room, and from the side table, he saw the picture of his late father staring at him. He sat on his bed, and took the frame, staring it for a long time. “This is what you wanted, right?” he asked bitterly. “You wanted me to avenge your death. I did everything to ruin his life. Why can't your death stop haunting me?” he said. He then slammed the frame on the side table, and then he leaned on the headboard of his bed. He took a deep breath, and then a tear rolled down his eyes.

He could not deny that just like his other identity, Calvin Orseo is just as lonely as Ralph Ferrer.

--

6 months later...

Calvin entered the cafe and saw his friends at one corner. “Hey, Calvin!” one of them called. He smiled at them, and walked to their table. “Looking good, huh? Bet your vacation in New York really helped you a lot. You looked more handsome than before.” one of his friend said. Calvin just smiled at him. “Thanks, Bryant.” he said. “So, what are your plans now? Are you going back to work immediately?” his other friend, Joseph, asked. Calvin shook his head. “I think I'll leave everything up to my assistant, Eric for a while. I want to take an extended vacation. Anyway, I deserve it.” he said. “Of course you do! The last seven years was too grueling for you. You really should rest.” Bryant said. Calvin nodded his head again.

They had their brunch while happily chatting and catching up with each other's lives. Just then, Calvin's mobile phone rang, interrupting their chat. It was from his assistant, Eric. “Guys, I have to take this.” he said, excusing himself. As he stood up to take the call, he didn't notice a girl who bumped into his back. As he turned his back to say sorry to the girl, the girl loses his balance. She was about to hit the floor, but good thing Calvin was fast, and he was able to catch her before she hits the floor.

He found himself staring into the long-haired girl's black orbs. They were at that position for a long time. As he held her in his arms, he felt like his world stopped in an instant, and the only person around was him and the girl. The girl, who was shocked, also couldn't help but stare into Calvin's face. She could hear his heart beating fast as he gazed at her, for she could hear hers as well. She felt her cheeks turn crimson as he continued to stare at her. She felt as if she's going to melt anytime. “Uhmm... excuse me...” she managed to say. It was like he was awakened from a beautiful dream, and realized that he was holding onto the girl for a long time. He then helped her up. “I'm sorry....” he said shyly. The girl just let out a faint laugh, and then she smiled at him. “Thank you for helping me...” she said. Calvin brushed his hair with his finger as he smiled and nodded at her.

He watched as her as she leaves the cafe. Before she reached the door, she looked back at her, and gave her a smile. “Whoa, Calvin Orseo... what was that all about?” Bryant teased him. Calvin just laughed at him. He doesn't even know what that was all about. “You should have asked for her name and number so that you could ask her out. You know, aside from taking a leave from your work, you should also get yourself a girlfriend.” Bryant said. With what Bryant said, Calvin could only smack his forehead. “Why didn't I do that?” he asked himself. He heard his friend laugh at him. “It's because you were too caught up by her that's why you forgot your signature moves when it comes to girls.” Bryant said.

Calvin looked at the door, and smiled to himself. He must admit, it's love a first sight for him, and he wished there's a way he could see that girl again. As he looked down on the floor, he saw a small diary lying on it. “it must have been that girl's diary...” he thought as he picked it up. And he was right, for as he opened it, he saw the girl's picture inside. Then, he saw her name written on the first page of the diary as well as her phone number and address. “Arianna Lorenzana...” he said to himself.

It seems that destiny is on his side now, for he found a way to see that girl again.

Or so he thought that destiny is on his side...
