About This Blog

This is where I post my original works - stories, poems, proses, essays, etcetera. I own everything that's written here. If you want to post my works somewhere, please give credit to me.

Original stories are stories whose characters came from my mind. I own the character for those posts that have this tag.

Fan fic are my stories which stars my favorite Asian stars/anime characters/drama characters. I only own the stories, but not the characters (I do wish I own Calvin Chen and the rest of Fahrenheit... lol)

Roses are my short proses/stories. it may be written in first person's view or thrid person's view. It's just a narrative prose.

One-shots are my series of stories that are one chapter long. These are also tag as roses.

Actually, I was planning to make 25 short stories before my 25th birthday (which have already passed) and unfortunately, I wasn't too successful in making 25 short stories. I was panning to call it 25 roses, hence the tag roses here in my blog.

Anyways, if you want to read just one story, click on the title below and then start reading from below.

Happy Reading!

P.S.

I'm trying to figure out how I could highlight the entries here and copy, but I am not that knowledgaeble with HTML. So, while I'm trying to figure things out, if anyone wanted a soft copy of the stories here for reading purposes only, you can shoot me an email at tamed_soul@hotmail.com

Me And The Boy Next Door - Round 6

Round 6 – Not Your Typical Knight In Shining Armor

It was Saturday morning.

Ella went out of the house to check if Sphinx have already arrived, but to her dismay, her best friend is still not around. She let out a sigh, and then looked at the clock. Sphinx should have been here 30 minutes ago, but there was no sign of him. “Where is he?” he thought. “Ohayou, Ella-san!” she heard someone say. She looked up, and saw her neighbor, Mrs. Takashi coming up to her. She smiled at her. “Ohayou, Takashi-san.” she said. Then, she looked down, and saw her granddaughter smiling at her. She knelt, and smiled at her. “Hello Tammy. I see you're with grandma today, huh?” she said. Tammy smiled and nodded her head. “I'm spending the weekends with grandma.” she answered. “My son and his wife need to attend some things in Keelung, and will come back tomorrow. For the meantime, I volunteered to look after Tammy.” Mrs. Takashi said. “I love being with grandma!” Tammy shouted. The elder woman leaned down to her, and gave her a kiss on the forehead. “Well, I know you will have a good time with grandma, Tammy. Enjoy your stay, OK?” she said. Tammy nodded her head.

“What are you doing outside, Ella?” Mrs. Takashi asked. “Oh, I'm waiting for Sphinx. He promised me he'll help me paint my room.” she said. Mrs. Takashi let out a smile to her. “I see that you've been so dependent on your best friend, Ella...”
“Since we were young, he always do things for me...”
“But then, you shouldn't be that dependent on him, Ella...”
Ella let out a faint smile. “I know... girls can do what guys can, right?” she asked. Mrs. Takashi shook her head. “It's not that Ella... you should learn not to depend on him because he will not always be around to be there for you.” she said. Ella fell silent at what she said. Suddenly, it worried her. Sphinx will always be there for her, right? He promised her, and she will hold on to that promise. She trusts that Sphinx will never leave her. “Mrs. Takahi... you know that Sphinx and I have been friends for so long. I don't think he will leave my side.” she said. Mrs. Takashi let out a faint smile, and shook her head. “We don't know what will happen in the future, Ella. But, whatever happens, you should be ready.” she said. Ella just nodded her head. “I'll remember that, Mrs. Takashi.” she said.

Mrs. Takashi headed to her apartment, and then she paused and looked back at Ella again. “By the way, if you need help, why don't you ask our new neighbor to help you?” she asked. Ella was surprised at what she said. She just shook her head. “I don't think they could help me out. They seem to be busy...” she said. “Oh, they aren't. They would always find time to help their neighbors. Chun helped me once with changing the lights on my kitchen. Why don't you ask him to help you paint your room.” she asked again. Ella just smiled at her. “There's no way I'm going to seek help from that chicken face...” she thought. “I think they're in right now. Let me check on them.” Mrs. Takashi said.

Before Ella could further react, Mrs. Takashi is already walking towards Chun's door, and knocked. Ella could only shook her head. Mrs. Takashi is clueless with what's going on between her and Chun. The elder woman doesn't know their history. Chun came out, and smiled as soon as he saw Mrs. Takashi. “Oh, Mrs. Takashi... it's you. You need my help regarding anything?” he asked. Mrs. Takashi smiled at her and shook her head. “I'm OK, Chun, but Ella here needs help with painting her room. Would you be able to help her?” the elder woman said. Chun let out a fake laugh as he looked at Ella. “Oh, Ella needs my help...” he said as he smirked at her. Ella just folded her arms, and rolled her eyes at him. “Why would Ella need my help? Where is her 'boyfriend'?” he asked. “Silly boy! Ella doesn't have a boyfriend. You must be talking about her old friend, Sphinx. He's not yet here, and she have to start painting her room. Would you be able to help her?” Mrs. Takashi asked. “Well, Ella... do you still need my help?” Chun asked as he folded his arms. “Yes, I still need your help... until Sphinx arrives.” she said. She just said that so that Mrs. Takashi won't get embarassed. “It's settled then. Once the two of you are done with work, why don't the two of you come by and I'll make some wonderful spaghetti for the two of you.” Mrs. Takashi said before leaving the two alone.

As soon as Mrs. Takashi left, Chun walked up to Ella, smirking at her evilly. “I can't believe Ms. Piggy will ask for my help!” he said. Ella rolled her eyes at him again. “Oh, Puh-leaze! I just didn't want Mrs. Takashi to be embarrassed that's why I said I still need your help. Thanks, but no, thanks.” she snapped at him. “Why? Because your ever-reliable best friend will come to help you?”
“Sphinx will come and help me, chicken face.”
“Well, if he is going to help you, he should have been here a long time ago!”
“And why do you care, chicken face? He's just late, that's all!”
“I bet he forgot that he promised to help you out, Ms. Piggy!”
“Of course not, chicken face! Sphinx is never like that.”
“Oh really?”
“Really!”

Chun smirked again, and folded his arms. “Well then, wait for your best friend to help you out. I only help nice neighbors, not neighbors who looks like Ms. Piggy.” he said. Ella folded her arms, and glared at him. “I don't need the help of a chicken face like you.” she said. “Well, if you don't need me, then goodbye.” he said. “Good riddance, chicken face.” she said. Both of them turned their backs on each other at the same time, and then stormed inside their houses.

--

Chun heard another knock on the door, and as he opened it, he saw another neighbor, Joe, standing by his door. “Oh, hey Joe!” he said, smiling at him. “Hey Chun. Look I need your help again...” Joe said. Chun nodded his head. “OK... what is it all about?” he asked. Joe looked around the place, and once the coast is clear, he leaned over Chun and whispered to him. As Joe whispers what he needs from Chun, he smiled. “OK, I got it. No problem.” Chun said. Joe smiled at him, and nodded his head. “Thanks, Chun. You're the best.” Joe said before leaving him.

As Chun was about to go back, he saw Ethan rushing up to him. “Chun! Have you seen Ella?” he asked. Chun gave him a confused look. “She's probably inside, painting her room with her best friend.” he said. “But did you noticed Sphinx's car?” Ethan asked again. Chun shook his head. “I don't know.... does he always have to bring his car?” he asked. Ethan looked at the house across them, and Chun could see the worried look on his face. “What's wrong?” Chun asked. “Selina called me. She said she was trying to call their house, but Ella isn't answering...” Ethan said. “Maybe Ms. Piggy is just busy painting, that's all. Tell her not to worry.” Chun said. “But Selina said she have been calling since this morning, and Ella is not answering. Have you noticed if she went out?” Ethan asked.

Chun looked at Ella's apartment, and realized that the last time he saw her was when they were bickering that morning. “No...” he said. He felt his heart beating fast. He is now worried about her. “Where could she be? Sphinx didn't arrive, and she haven't got out of that house since morning...” he thought. Without saying any word, Chun immediately ran outside their house then to Ella's house. “Ella!” he said as he banged the door. There was no response from her. “Ms. Piggy... open the door will you?” he thought worriedly. “Ella Chen!” he shouted again, banging the door. Still there was no answer from her. “Oh great! Where can you be, Ms. Piggy! Get the goddamn door, will you?” he thought.

Worried, and somewhat impatient, Chun was left was no choice but to break the door down. With all his strength and a little of Ethan's help, they were able to break down the door. And to their surprise, they saw Ella lying unconsciously by the stairs. “Ella!” both of them shouted. Chun run up to her, and held her into his arms. He felt something wet in his hand, and as he looked at his hand, he saw blood on it. “Ethan! Go and call an ambulance!” he said. Ethan nodded his head, and as he was about to go, Chun called him again. “No! Go and get the car. We can't wait for the ambulance. Then call Hebe, call Selina, call Sphinx, call Mrs. Takashi, call Ariel and Joe, call Arron and Jae Joong, call -”
“Chun! Stop panicking! Let me just call Selina, OK? I'll ask Nic to go and get Hebe.”
“Can you get the goddamn car before you call Selina?!”
“I said stop panicking!”
“Can you just go! You're panicking as well and it's making me nervous!”
“I am going!”
“Then go now, will you! Get the goddamn car!”

Ethan rushed outside the house to get their car. Chun cradled Ella in his arms. “Ella... Ella... wake up... can you hear me?” he said as he shook her. He heard a soft groan coming from her. “Paint...” she said. Chun could only shake his head. “You knocked yourself down, and all you can think is painting your room? You must be crazy!” he thought. Then he saw Ella slowly open her eyes. “Chun... what are you doing...” she said weakly. “Are you OK? Ella... speak to me...” he said. “Chicken... face...” Ella muttered. Chun could only sigh and shake his head. Even if she is unconscious, she could even manage to insult him and call him names. “Patience, Chun... patience... Ms. Piggy knocked herself down... she doesn't know what she's saying...” he said to himself. “Head... hurts... Sphinx...” Ella muttered again.

He heard the car park in front of the apartment as well as Ethan yelling his name. He carried Ella in his arms, and rushed outside to get her to the hospital.

--

“Oh my God! What happened!” Selina asked Chun as she rushed inside the Emergency Room. “I went to check on her, and I found her lying on the stairs unconscious. I think she fell on the stairs.” he said. “Where is she? I want to see my cousin.” Selina said. “They're doing some tests on her. She had a CT Scan to check if there's any brain damage, not that she needs any more brain damage...” Chun said. Selina put her hands on her waist and glared at him. “Chun!” she shouted at him angrily. “I'm just kidding. Relax, all right? You cousin's as tough as a stone, no need to worry about her.” he said.

Just then, the doctor came out. “Doctor! What happened to my cousin? Is she going to be all right?” Selina asked. The doctor smiled at her, and nodded his head. “She's going to be fine. We had to do CT Scan because of her wound on the head, but nothing serious. She just broke her leg, that's all.” the doctor said. Selina sighed with relief upon hearing what he said. “Thank God...” she said. “Good thing she was brought here in the hospital or else...” the doctor said. Selina and Chun gave each other a confused look, and then looked at the doctor. “Or else what?” they both asked. “Or else, we wouldn't find out that she's fine.” the doctor said. Then, he let out a laugh, while Chun and Selina could only sigh. “Yeah, right... what a joker...” Selina muttered. “Eh, doc... can we see Ella now?” Chun asked. The doctor nodded his head.

The two went inside, and saw Ella lying on the bed. “Ellie! You got us really worried!” Selina said. Ella looked at her cousin, and smiled. Then, she saw Chun tailing behind her, and the smile on her face suddenly disappeared. “What is that chicken face doing here?” she asked. “Ellie, Chun was the one who brought you here. He saw you lying unconsciously by the stairs. What happened?” Selina asked worriedly. “I fell on the stairs, OK?” she said. She sat up on her bed, and folded her arms. She could hear Chun snickering. “What?!” she shouted at Chun. “Yeah, we know you fell on the stairs. We want to know how did your stupidity happened?” Chun said. Ella rolled her eyes at him. “Yeah, what happened? I was calling you the whole day to check on you, and you didn't picked up!” Selina said. “I was painting my room, OK? And I turned my phone in silent mode and unhooked the phone line because I got pissed off with Sphinx. He canceled, saying Larissa wants to meet up with him.” she said as she pouted. Selina could see the disappointment in Ella's face. “Oh, Ellie...” she said as she sat beside her on the bed. Meanwhile, Chun couldn't help but snicker. “What?!” Ella snapped at him. Chun stopped snickering and turned to face her. “Nothing.” he said. “So, you were painting your room... how did you fall from the stairs?” Selina asked again. Ella let out a sigh. “I was going downstairs to clean up and get some water, when I stepped on a slippery rag. Then, I fell on from the stairs.” she explained.

With that, Chun laughed again, which made her more annoyed. “Wei, why do you keep on laughing! And what the hell are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to go somewhere and do something fruitful?” she snapped at him. “Oh, please... I wouldn't want to stay, OK? I just waited for Selina.”
“Selina is here, so can you go?”
“If I go, how the hell do you expect to go home?”
“We can hail a cab, you know?”
“And you expect your thin cousin to carry your fat body around?”
“I am not that heavy!”

Selina could sense another fight between the two, and before they could continue, she stepped in between them. “Guys, stop fighting! We're here at the hospital, OK?” she said. Then, she looked at Ella, and put her hand on her waist. “And we need Chun Ella. There's no way I can carry you around, given that you broke your leg.” she said to her. She looked at Chun sternly, and with that, Chun stopped laughing. “And you shouldn't laugh at my cousin just because she fell on the stairs!” she shouted. “I am not!” he said defensively. “Can we get out of this place. You know how much I hate hospitals, Sel...” Ella said. Selina nodded her head. “Let me settle the bill. Chun, stay with Ella here for a while, OK?”

Then, she left the two alone.

--

“How are you feeling, Ella?” Ethan said as he sat beside her on the couch. Ella had her broken leg up on the coffee table. “It still hurts, but I'll get used to it. I think I need to file a sick leave for this one...” she said. “The doctor said it will take two weeks before my leg will heal...” she continued. Ethan shook his head. “That's too bad. So it means you won't be able to do your show for two weeks?” Ethan asked. Ella shrugged her shoulder. “I don't know. I'm gonna miss doing my show... maybe I'll be able to go to work after a few days.” she said. With that, Ethan smiled at her. “Great! At least I would still be able to hear your lovely voice on air.” he said. Ella folded her arms, and glared at him. “You're not flirting with me, aren't you?” she said.

Then, Selina came with a tray filled with a pitcher of juice, glasses and a plate of cookies. “Chow time!” she said. Ella looked at the cookies on the plate, then looked at Ethan. “Did that stupid chicken face baked this cookies?” she asked him. “Nope. I did.” Ethan said. But the truth is, he is lying.

[Flashback]
Ethan woke up that morning to find Chun in the kitchen, making chocolate chip cookies. “Morning...” he said as he yawned. “Morning.” Chun said as he opened the oven. He took out a tray of cookies that he made and put in another batch to bake. “Are you going to visit Selina and that fat cousin of hers?” Chun asked. Ethan nodded his head. “Yeah, later...” he said. “Then, can you give these cookies to that Ms. Piggy?” he asked. Ethan was surprised at him. He could only give him a meaningful smile. “It's not what you're thinking, Ethan!” Chun said defensively. “I did not say anything yet... I thought you hate her. Why are you giving her cookies?” he asked. “It's just a get-well-soon cookies. I would've done the same thing to our other neighbors, all right?” he said defensively. Ethan just laughed at him, which made him more annoyed. “Look... she's sick all right?” he said again. Ethan leaned on his chair, and smirked at his friend. “Then why are you being defensive?” he asked. “Because I know what's on your mind. This is not a peace offering, whatsoever. And, yeah, don't tell her I baked these cookies. She might think I'm poisoning her, and not eat them.” Chun said.
[End of Flashback]

Selina took a piece of cookie, and ate it. And so did Ella. “Hmmm... this is a tasty cookie, Ethan!” she said to him. Ethan smiled at him. “Thanks.” he said. “If you only knew that Chun was the one who baked it...” he thought. Ella looked at Selina, and she looked as if she was trying to remember something. “Sel, anything wrong?” she asked. “I don't know, Ellie... but the taste of this cookie is too familiar... it tastes like the cookie I ate a few years ago...” she said. Ella took another bite from the cookie, and tried to concentrate on its taste. “I don't know... it tastes like the cookies that we usually had when we were kids...” Selina said. “You mean like the ones being sold at the cafeteria?” Ella asked. Selina nodded her head. “Even better.” she said. Ella nodded her head, and then ate the cookie. “Yeah, it sure did.”

Then, there was a knock on the door. Selina opened it, and saw their neighbor, Ariel, who was on the verge of crying. “Sel, is Ella in?” she asked. Selina nodded her head, and let Ariel in. “Oh, hey Ariel!” Ella said. Then, she noticed her sad face. “Anything wrong?” she asked. “Ella, I need your help and advice...” she said. “It's about my husband, Joe...” she said. She sat on the other chair, and then she began to cry. “Hey, hey... stop crying...” Ethan said as he comforted Ariel. “Why? What happened with Joe?” Ella asked. “I think...” she stuttered. “I think my husband is having an affair...”

--

“What do you think?” Chun asked Joe as he showed him the brochure of a hotel outside Taipei. “Looks good. I'm sure she's gonna like it.” Joe said. “Great! So shall I make the reservations now?” he asked. Joe nodded his head. “Oh, and Chun...” Joe said. Chun paused, and looked at him. “Promise me that no matter what happens, Ariel will never ever find out about this.”
