The Man-Hater - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 – Drunk and Crazy



“Jia Hua... I'm gay...”

She looked up with her with a flinching look on her face. All the tears she had a while ago seemed to retreat back to her tear glands. Is Ah Ru for real? How could that be? They have been dating for almost 5 years before they decided to get married. And now, Ah Ru is telling him that the reason he left her seven years ago is that he is gay.

“What?!” she exclaimed. She sure is surprised. She admits that when she first met Ah Ru, he seemed so effeminate, but she knew he is straight. She knew that he is not gay. And now, he is telling her that he is gay. Imagine her disappointment. “That's the reason why I left you, Jia Hua... I was confused with myself. I was confused, and I know that confusion will only hurt you in the end. What if I can't be man enough to be with you? What if one day, I will have to leave you because of that confusion. Jia Hua, you are the last person I want to hurt, that's why I left... I don't want to repeat your history...” Calvin said. Ella stared at him with a confusion on her face. “Gay?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. “The truth is... even before we started dating, I am confused with my own sexuality. But all that confusion was gone when I met you. I started dating you, I built my dreams with you. God knows you are the only girl I want to be with for the rest of my life... but then...” He took a deep breath, and shook his head before facing the shocked girl before him. “I got confused again when I met Jiro Wang, all right?” he said.

Ella knew who the guy Calvin is talking about. Jiro Wang – he is their colleague back in Tian Quan Engineering. “Jiro?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. “What about him?” she asked. “Two days before our wedding, the guys gave me a stag party. I was so drunk that night, I thought I did it with the lady stripper... but then when I woke up the next day, I found myself in bed with Jiro...” Calvin said. Ella could not digest all the things she found out. She was too shocked to even take it. Talk about information overload. “Bed?” she asked in a daze. “I wish it was just a one-time mistake, you know... I could have walked out on him and forget it, but... but I did enjoy it... so we had another round that morning. God he look so sexy naked in the morning.... and -”

“OK, stop right there, mister.” Ella said, interrupting him. Whatever it is that he is about to say, she just don't want to hear it. Calvin stopped, and looked at her. Ella looked at him angrily. “OK, let me get this straight. You jumped into bed with our colleague. Not a female colleague, but Jiro Wang?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. “And you enjoyed... enjoyed... 'that' with him?” she asked again. Calvin nodded his head again. “And instead of you being too shocked of what happened, you had another go with him, so you got confused and left me at the altar?!” she said, stressing on the last thing she said. “I know it's wrong, Jia Hua... but I realized that I can't hurt you. What would you do if I did marry you, and then I go and have an affair with a man? What would you do if you found out later on that I am really gay? So I left to think things through, and after reflecting on my actions, I realized that I am gay. And that I am in love with Jiro.” Calvin said.

Ella turned around, not knowing how to react to him. “Ah Ru... forgive me... I don't know what to say...” she said. “I understand, Jia Hua...” Calvin said. Ella turned to him again. “Let me think things through, all right. It's my turn to be confused. You are going to stay long here in Taipei, or not?” she asked. “I am definitely going to stay long. Jiro and I are getting married two months from now, and we're here to appease his folks and my folks about us getting married.”

Ella let out a sigh, and then turned to hug him. “I wish you all the luck, Ah Ru...” she said. Then, she looked up at him. “Just promise me you won't have a sex transplant?” she asked. “Actually, I am planning to have one.” he said, grinning at him. With that, Ella let him go, and Calvin laughed upon seeing the shocked expression on her face. “I am not kidding, Ella.” he said. Shocked, Ella turned her back on her, and left the room.

Chun leaned back on the wall, and close his eyes. He wanted to cry, all right. He knew that after tonight, he will lose Ella to Calvin. After all, he is her first love. He let out a sigh. Then, as he stood up straight, the door opened, and saw Ella got out of the hotel with a shocked look on her face. “What's wrong?” he asked. Ella just looked at him, as if he was in a daze. Did Calvin do something to her? Well, if he does, he is more than willing to beat the hell out of him. “Ella?” he called her. “Let's get out of here.” Ella said. She held her hand, and dragged him out of the hotel.

Chun found himself being dragged inside the club. Ella held on tight to him as he pulled him to the bar counter. “One tequila please.” Ella told the bartender as soon as they seated. Chun looked at her with confusion. “Ella, is there anything wrong?” he asked. Before she could answer, she gulped down her drink. After she finished her drink, she turned to face him. “A lot of things went wrong tonight.” she said. Chun could only give her another confused look. Before he could ask her another question, she heard him order another drink. He watched her as she finished down her second drink. “What's wrong?” he asked. Ella slammed the glass on the counter, and then glared at him. “Damn, I wished that wasn't your surprise! I wish you would have just brought me to that hotel room with a romantic night with you!” she told him.

Ella ordered another drink, and Chun could only watch her as she finished her drink. Before he knew it, she is already drunk. “Ella... you had too much drink. Come on, I'll take you home...” he said. He touched her shoulder, then, she slumped on the counter. He was ready to carry her, but then she heard her cry. “Ella?” he called. Ella sat up, and looked at him tearfully. “He is gay! He is a freaking gay, all right?!” she cried at him. Chun was surprised at what she said. “Calvin... is gay?” he asked. Ella nodded her head. She wiped the tear from her eyes as she finished another round of her drink. “Can you believe it? He left me at the altar because he found out that being in bed with a man is way better than being in bed with me. I am a better lover than that freaking gay lover of his! He said he got confused, and he is scared that his confusion about his sexuality will hurt me... so he chose to leave me on our wedding day. To be with that bastard!” she said. She let out a sigh, and then finished another round of her drink. “Seven years... seven fucking long years... I held on to my love for him... I wondered what could be the reason why he left me... all the while, I thought I have moved on... I thought I could hate him for leaving me, for making me not trust men anymore... Seven long years, I yearned for him to return to my life, only to find out that he is gay?!” she ranted.

Chun a took deep breath. He looked away from her, and let out a grin. With Calvin out of the picture since he is gay, it gives him a better chance to be with Ella. He felt Ella tug his shirt, and as he looked at her, she was giving her puppy eye look. “What's wrong with me? I gave him my all... then in the end... he chose to be with a man.... why can't he love me again? Why do people always have to leave me? Am I not pretty enough? Am I not understanding enough? Is there something missing in me?” she asked. “I say that it was one hell of a sex for him.” Chun said. Then, he let out a smile at her. “He's not worth all your tears, Ella. He doesn't know what he had before, and what he had let go when he went to bed with another man and left you at the altar. You've been pining for him all these time, then in the end, it turns out that he enjoys being with a man than with a beautiful girl like you. If I were in his shoes, I will not let you go.” he said. “You won't?” she asked. Chun nodded his head. “You won't dump me like what you did to Rainie and to your other girls?” she asked. Chun nodded his head again. “I won't do that to you, Ella.” he said. Ella stared at him for a long time. “Then, can you make love to me?” she asked.

Chun was shocked at what she said. He opened his mouth to speak, but he became speechless. This is the man-hater before him, asking him to make love to her. He swallowed hard as she looked at her with her eyes pleading him. He knew how hurt she is after finding out the reason why Calvin left her. Maybe she doesn't mean what she said. Maybe she said that out of hurt. Maybe she is too drunk to even know what she is saying. Before he could give her an answer, Ella fell unconsciously into her arms.

Chun opened the door of his pad, and carried the slumbering Ella in his arms. As he reached his room, he lay her down. He tucked her under the blanket, and stared at her sleeping face. He brushed the hair away from her face so that he could have a better look of her lovely face. He knew how hurt she is when she found out the truth. He wished he should have not let Calvin meet her, to spare her all the pain, but then he knew she have the right to know why the man she loves left her.

He let out a smile as he watched her sleep. What shocked him the most that night was when Ella asked him to make love to her. If he is the man that he is before, he would have taken advantage of her drunken state, and make love to her the whole night. He would have taken her now. But he is not the same Chun that he is, now that Ella is in his life. He felt just contented by watching her sleep in his bed. “Don't worry, Ella...” he whispered to her. “If Calvin doesn't love you anymore... I do. I have more than enough love for the two of us... I'm going to make things right for the two of us...” he said. He pulled himself to her, and kissed her on the forehead. As she shifter her position to sleep, Chun stood up from his bed. He sat on the couch, and watched Ella sleep. He watched her until he himself fell asleep.

Ella slowly opened her eyes. She could feel her head aching, as if someone is hammering it. “Ouch...” she mumbled as she turned to her side. Then, she noticed something wrong – she wasn't in her own room. “Where am I?” she thought. She sat up on her bed, and looked around the unfamiliar face. She tried to remember what happened the night before. She remembered drinking herself to death, and talking to Chun. Then, it hit her. “Wu Chun?!” she thought.

She dreaded the thought that Chun might have taken advantage of her the night before. She slowly looked at herself from under the blanket, and saw herself still fully dressed. “OK... so nothing happened...” she thought. She let out a sigh of relief. She decided she have to sneak out of his place. After what she did or say the night before, she sure doesn't want to face him. Though she is drunk, she still remember every word she said. Especially the last one she said to Chun before she passed out. She got her shoes, and tiptoed out of his room. She found Chun at the kitchen. She bit her lips as she tiptoed to the door. She just wanted to get out of his pad without being caught. She doesn't know how she will face him.

Chun was busy making breakfast when he heard a creaking sound behind him. He turned around, and saw Ella tiptoeing towards the door. As she reached the door, he decided to call her attention. “You're not planning to leave without having breakfast first, aren't you?” he said. Ella flinched as she was caught by Chun. Sighing, she stood up straight, and turn to face Chun, who was preparing a breakfast. “I have to go.” she told him. “I'll drive you home as soon as you finish your breakfast.” he said. She let out another sigh, and then walked up to the dinner table. She looked at the plates on it, then she looked up at Chun, who was busy cooking some pancakes. “You cook?” she asked. “I do.” he said, smiling at him. “No wonder girls are going gaga over you.” he said. “I don't cook for anyone else, but myself. So, you're lucky you get to taste my dishes.”
“You're not trying to kill me, right?”
“No.”
“You're not trying to get back at me for last night?”
“No.”
“Why are you being nice.”
“I am nice. You just have to give me chance to show my nice side to you.”

He walked towards the table, and placed a plate filled with stacks of pancake. “Shall we eat?” he asked. Ella nodded her head, and sat beside him. Ella just stared at her plate as it is being filled up by Chun. “I did not say anything stupid last night, didn't I?” she asked out of the blue. “Aside from crying your heart out over your gay ex-boyfriend, no?” Chun said. Ella slowly shook her head. “I remember everything. I did say something stupid last night.” she said. Chun gave her a confused look. “What? The 'make love to me' part?” he asked. Ella looked at him, mortified at what he said. Chun let out a laugh upon seeing that look on her face. “You did say that.”
“You didn't do something to me, didn't you?”
“I don't make love to drunk women.”

He let out a grin at her. Ella could only lower her head in embarrassment. “Me and my big mouth...” she thought. “So, you can be a gentleman after all...” Ella commented. Chun nodded his head. “I'm not always a jerk. Besides, how can I make love to someone who is dead drunk and have been crying all through the night? It won't be that fun.” he said. Ella could only shook her head. “Fine...” she said. She stared down at her plate as she ate her breakfast. She was silent the whole time they were having breakfast. “So... Calvin is gay? Want to talk about it?” Chun asked. Ella let out another sigh. “Yeah, he is gay...” she said bluntly. “So, after all these time, the man you have been loving for so long isn't the man you thought him to be. He isn't even a man, he is a girl. So, I therefore conclude that you are a lesbian.” Chun said. With that, Ella let out a chuckle.

As he saw the smile formed on her lips, Chun felt her heart beating fast again. “I guess... i-it's about t-time that, y-you know... you should move on...” he said. Ella raised an eyebrow at him. “You mean to say, I should give it a go with you?” she asked. Chun nodded his head. “If you are that desperate to date me, then you're going to do everything that I want?” she asked. Chun nodded his head. “Of course.” he said. With that, Ella let out a playful smile on her face.

“What the heck is this?”
“Can you just shut up, mister?”
“But Ella!”
“No buts. I thought you wanted to date me.”
“But -”
“OK, now close your eyes...”
“Ella!”
“OK, done. Now, pucker up...”
“Not that one!”
“Wu Chun, you said you'll do everything to date me?”

He let out a pout at the girl standing before her. “Do I have to do this?” he asked. Ella let out a smile, and nodded her head. He let out a sigh, and let Ella do her way with him. “OK, now open your eyes, Chun.” she said. Chun slowly opened her eyes, and was mortified to see himself in make up. Not just make up. He is wearing a long curly wig, and a blue summer dress. “Why did I ever let her talk me into doing this?” he thought.

So, lover boy promised that he will do everything that she tells her, just so that she will go out with her. It is a good opportunity for him to let her know that his intentions are real. But what Ella did, turning him into a girl, is absurd. “OK, now that you turned me into a girl, what's next?” he asked. He turned to Ella, who was staring at her, and smiling evilly at him. “Ella!” he said in annoyed tone. “Let's take pictures of you, Chunnie.” she said. She took out her camera phone, and began to take pictures of him. Chun was turning away from her camera. “Wu Chun, will you just smile in front of the camera?” she said. “Wei... why are you making a fool out of me?”
“You said you would do anything to date me?”
“And it means making a fool out of myself?”
“Well, that's one of it. If you can't take the crazy me, then you don't deserve me.”

Chun let out a sigh as he shook his head. He then suddenly remembered what Calvin told him when he was still courting Ella back then. “You must do something really impossible for her. Then you win her heart.” he remember Calvin telling him. “So, if this is the impossible thing... then I guess I should go with it...” he thought. Then, he looked up at Ella, and saw her taking pictures of her again. “Smile.” she said. Chun smiled at her, and made a kawaii pose. This made Ella laugh while she took pictures of him.

“OK, what's next?” he asked. “Of course, it would be a shame if the whole world wouldn't see how beautiful you are as a girl, Chunnie...” she said. She let out another evil smile, and Chun could only groan at what she said.

And they ended up at their favorite club that night.

As they entered the club, all eyes were on Chun. He saw that how the men's jaw dropped upon seeing him as a girl, and this made him a little comfortable. It's like they were stripping him naked with their eyes. “Ella... can we go now?” he asked her. Ella turned to him, and shook his head. “Come on, we just arrived. Just enjoy this night, all right?”
“But those guys...”
“Chunnie, just don't mind them, all right.”

Chun let out a sigh as he followed Ella at the bar. She ordered a drink for the two of them. She looked around, and saw that all guys were really eying Chun. “I bet someone will come here, and introduce themselves to you, Jackie...” she said. Chun gave her a confused look. “Jackie?” he asked. “That's your name, girl. So, if they ask for your name, tell them your name is Jackie, all right?” she said. Chun just nodded his head. It wasn't long after when someone came up to Chun. “Hey, beautiful...” Chun looked beside him, and saw Show standing beside him. He was surprised to see his best friend flirting with him. “Oh, hey...” he said in a girly tone. Then, Mike came up to Show. “Show, we left you for one minute and you're leaving your date behind? Geez!” Mike said. Then, he noticed Ella and “Jackie”. “Oh, hi Ms. Chen. Glad to see you here.” he said. “Hi, Mike.” she said. Then, he looked at the girl beside her. He could swear that she looked familiar. “Is she your friend?” Mike asked. Ella smiled, and nodded her head. “Yeah, this is Jackie. An old friend of mine.” she said.

Mike looked at her closely, and Chun tried to look away from Mike. “Jackie?” he asked. Chun nodded his head. “Hi, I'm Jackie... nice meeting you...” he said in a girly tone. Show shove Mike past him, then held his hand. “Hey, Jackie, I'm Show. So, do you have a date?” he asked. Chun swallowed hard as he watched Show kiss his hand. Ella couldn't help but laugh at his mortified reaction. Just then, Hebe came up to the two. “Aha! I knew it! You are flirting with another girl!” she told Mike. Both Ella and Chun were surprised to see her. “But honey, I am not! I just followed Show here... besides, we bumped into your friends...” Mike explained to her. “Honey?!” Both Ella and Chun exclaimed. Hebe looked at Ella, and let out a smile. “He asked me out.” she said, then she nudged Mike on his ribs. “We're on the getting-to-know-each-other stage, you know.” she explained. Ella and Chun nodded their heads. Then, she noticed the girl sitting beside Ella. “Who is she, Ella?” she asked. “Ah, yeah, this is Jackie. From kindergarten... remember?” Ella said. Hebe gave her a confused look. “I don't remember anyone named Jackie... but if you were from our class before, nice meeting you.” she said. Then, she dragged Mike and Show away from the two.

“Whew... that was close...” Chun said as he sighed with relief. Ella saw another guy approaching him. “Well, there's another one...” she said. Chun looked beside her and saw a middle-aged man beside him. “Hello, sweetheart.” the man said. His eyes widened with surprise as he looked at Ella. Ella could only let out a faint laugh as she sip her drink. “So, babe... what's your name?” the man asked. “J-j-jackie...” Chun said in a girl, yet nervous tone. He felt the man move closer to him. His fingers ran through his bare arm as he breathed into him, which brought shiver to his spine. “So... you have a date?” the man hissed in his ear. He flinched as he shook his head. “N-n-n-no d-d-date...” he said. “I see... seems like the club tonight is really boring... what do you say if we get out of this bar and have a good time? I can show you how it's like to party...” the man said.

Chun looked helplessly at Ella. His pleading eyes were asking her to help her out of that situation. Ella just smiled as she continued to enjoy her drink. “No, thank you... I... I'm having fun here...” Chun said. “Oh, come on, sweetheart! It's much fun back in my place. We could have fun in my bed.” the man breathed in him. Chun swallowed hard as he felt his arm around his waist, and his other hand holding his, as if not wanting to let him go till he say yes. “Ella... help... please...” he thought. Chun was getting uncomfortable with the way the man is holding him. The man pinching his butt is not helping him at all. Ella let out a sigh, until she finally decided to help him out of that situation. She stood up from her seat, and then took Chun by his free hand. “Let's go.” she said. She smirked at the old man, who was giving her a confused look, then she pulled Chun away from him, the two of them running out of the club.

They ran away from the club, and yes, the man-hater tire out our lover boy till he could no longer run in stilettos. They found themselves in a deserted alley, just a block away from the club. “That was so close...” Ella said as she panted. She leaned on the wall, and catch up with her breath. Chun leaned on the wall, catching up with his breath as well. “I really thought I am going to be raped by that dirty old man...” he said. Ella looked at him, and let out a laugh. Chun could only give her angry glares. “Not funny!” he said to him. “Your expression a while ago... priceless!” she said, letting out another laugh.

Chun could only shake his head. Why did he ever let her dress him up like a girl? “I was harassed. Can you give me some slack, and stop laughing.” he said in an annoyed tone. Ella folded her arms, and let out a smirk at him. “So, now you know how it feels like to be harassed by some pervert. Good for you, Chun.” she said. Chun just let out a sigh as he shook his head. “Are you trying to teach me a lesson?”
“No, I'm actually making fun of you.”
“Fine. Laugh all you want, Ms. Chen.”
“I'm done laughing now.”

Ella let out another laugh as he rolled his eyes. “You know what, you're a pretty girl. Too bad, you are a guy. I would have made my move on you if you were a girl.” she said. Chun gave her a confused look. “So, you're saying you're a lesbian now?” he asked. Ella just shrugged her shoulder. “Do you want me to turn you into a woman now?”
“Haven't you learned your lesson? You know how it feels like when some perv harasses you.”
“I have learned my lesson now, thank you very much.”
“Good.”

Chun let out another sigh, and looked at her. She was smiling to herself as she looked away from him. Well, if being a girl would make Ella fall in love with him, then he'll dress up as a girl always. “I think I'm loving you more and more each day, you weird man-hater...” he thought.
